Congratulations to the Deakin University Students and Alumni representing Australian in the London 2012 Olympics
Congratulations to the Deakin University students and Alumni who represented Australia at the London Olympic Games 2012. At this year’s Games, Deakin students, Rowie Webster, of the Australian Women’s Water Polo team, The Stingers, and Samantha Richards of the Australian Women’s Basketball team, The Opals, both received Bronze medals for their performance. Well done!
Current Deakin University students, Carmen Marton, who represented Australia in Taekwondo, and Jeff Riseley, who competed in the 800m, placed 5th in their respective sports. Deakin Alumni Pauline Frasca placed 4th in rowing for the quadruple sculls. This was a tremendous achievement and we applaud every Deakin student and Alumni that participated in the games. The hard work and commitment required to develop an elite sporting career is acknowledged by Deakin University.
We now look forward to supporting the Deakin students and Alumni competing in the forthcoming Paralympic Games which take place 29 August to 9 September. Featuring in events are Maddy Hogan (javelin) and Cobi Crispin (wheel chair basketball). Events featuring Alumni are Richard Colmen (athletics) and Rebecca McDonnell (table tennis).
