Carmen Marton’s Battle for Bronze
Carmen Marton beat Elin Johansson of Sweden 6-3 in the Taekwondo quarter-finals to face Nur Tatar of Turkey. Nur came to London as fifth seed ahead of Carmen and was always going to be a tough fight. The first round had Turkey in the lead 4-0, however a video review over-turned a three point kick making it a one point game.
The second round was close with Turkey winning two points. Heading into the last round Carmen was down 3-0, yet still in the running. Unfortunately Carmen was unable to connect her kicks in the third round, with Nur Tatar winning the match.
Carmen remained positive after the loss to the European Champion Nur Tatar and headed into the bronze final to take on Helena Fromm of Germany. The score did not reflect how close the match was with video review calls going the German’s way along with the Bronze.
Carmen can hold her head high after a great performance finishing her London 2012 Olympic campaign in fifth place. Carmen has expressed her plans with a true competitive spirit to return for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
If I am in the right body state and right frame of mind and I qualify - I still have to go through all the qualifications - then I would love to do another Games.
